Production Blog: Finishing the Video
Hello Cambridge people! We gave ourselves a few days of rest before finishing the video. We had to call on Snap Chat instead of Facetime because I do not have an I-Phone and FaceTime doesn't work on my phone. When I had gone, they did a little bit of editing, but not much. We decided to add in cross cutting between all of the shots where we change location, to imply that them moving to those places was off camera. The one insert before this also shows her daydreaming of playing with the band. We decided to put most of the clips of Samantha being happier after she and the love interest get back together, to show her emotional progression. We also put some of the clips in slow motion, which looked very cool, particularly when Samantha and Amelie jump towards the camera. I also liked the part where we all look at the fisheye lens weirdly, because it looks very silly while still showing how happy Samantha is to be back with her lover. We noticed that we did not have a tilt in the video, which is one of the required elements. We searched and searched, but we were struggling to find a tilt that we had filmed. Finally, we found one of us playing where there was a tilt of Samantha playing. We had to remove a shot of me playing bass, but this was more important.
We decided that we should make sure that we had everything else required in the rubric. We definitely had multiple angles, with the requirement only being two while we had all four. We were a bit less sure about the different shots, but I'm confident we got multiple. We also knew that our mis-en scene created meaning, as even the smallest details showed the story we were telling. Finally, with the edit, we also had a pan and a tilt. I am very proud of the video, particularly because I helped make the story. Next video, I hope we can make an even better story, since we'll be able to use dialogue.
