Production Blog: The music part of the video

Welcome back Cambridge people! Today we recorded the second part of the music video, where we actually played instruments. First, Samantha's dad took us over to his studio and we listened to the song on the way there. I was a bit nervous because there bass was going to be a full sized bass, which I had never practiced on before. Fortunately, his turned out to not be a problem and I was easily able to play my part the whole time. I had also never played next to a drum set before and I did not realize that the bass would make the snare drum make noise, so that freaked me out. We had Samantha's dad put on the song, and we tried our best to sync up to the song. We started out playing with full lighting and ad Samantha's dad film us with a normal lens. He did lots of the different shots we needed to do for the video, which is good. We played through the whole song even though we know that we won't be using most of the song in the video. We did this again with a fisheye lens that Samantha had bought for the music video, which was having trouble focusing, but we managed to make it work.

We then decided to record the other parts we needed at the studio. First, we recorded Samantha coming in, turning on the lights, being shocked, and running away. Then, we recorded everyone except Samantha playing after she turned on the lights and having a good time. We also a medium long shot of me playing bass and looking up at Samantha, and being sad because she is running away. I'm fairly proud of myself for that because I feel that my facial expressions were pretty good at conveying the right emotions. Finally, we recorded me running out of the studio in a pan shot. Outside the studio, we recorded Samantha going to the car and starting to open the door, and then me stopping her. This was actually supposed to be her riding away on a bike, but we felt that it would be weird that she was supposedly coming there in a car and then running away on a bike.  Then, we recorded us running back to the studio, which finished the story of the video. We recorded a few clips of us being silly for cross cutting, because this was done in many of the music videos we looked at in the genre. Finally, we recorded us playing the song again in different, more atmospheric lighting to see if we liked that better. Now, all we have to do is edit!
