Production blog: Filming day!
Hello Cambridge peoples! Today we started filming our music video. We drove over to Samantha's house at 10:00 and started working as soon as everyone was there. First, we took some pictures of a "lover" that would be on Samantha's phone that she would delete to show that they had broken up. Once we were done with that, we started filming in order of the video. We were going to use Samantha's phone to record the video. Our first scene we recorded was the first one on the storyboard, where the main character, played by Samantha, was supposed to be filmed from an aerial shot waking up as depressed as possible. We started laughing during the first take, which caused Samantha to laugh, so we had to do another take. We also took another one after that for good measure. The next take would be an over the shoulder shot where Samantha would be deleting the pictures from her phone, with her phone being played by Lilly's phone. We did another two takes for good measure, which was a bit awkward because we had to find the photos that she had deleted each time.
The next scene would be her eating cereal and sticking her face in the bowl to convey how distraught she is over the breakup. There was some debate about whether or not we should also show her walking to the kitchen and pouring the cereal, but ultimately we decided that this would take to long in the video. For some reason, Samantha refused to actually eat the cereal and would spit it out after each take. We also decided to take multiple takes for this scene just in case we change our minds about liking one of the takes. On the first one, we decided that it looked to fake because she clearly slows down before hitting the bowl. After we told her this, we took another take where she actually face-planted into the bowl and made a loud noise. Fortunately, it didn't leave a mark, but it sounded like it hurt a lot. After we took another, safer shot, we prepared for the final scene we would record that day. We were going to film Samantha turning on the car, putting it into reverse, and starting to pull out of the driveway. A problem we were having was that it didn't look very good when the cameraperson was in the car with her. So, we had to have the camera pointing into the car. The problem with this was that Samantha couldn't drive as far as to not hit the cameraperson(Lilly). So, we probably had the most takes of this because it wasn't very clear that Samantha was backing out. However, we finally got a take that we were happy with. Next time, we are going to record the parts at the studio. I can't wait!
