Group Blog

Hello Cambridge people! For my music video, I will be working with Samantha Burton, Lilly Gonzalez, and Amelie De Kegel. I chose this group because we already sit together in class, so I know we won't have any issues of infighting. Samantha and Lilly were also both in my group for Component 3 of Global Perspectives, so I know that we can work well together to make a good final product. Additionally, I know that all of them are smart and will not procrastinate or throw all of the work on me. Also, Samantha showed me her commercial, so I know that she is good at editing, which is something that I struggle with. In fact, all of them are much better at editing than me, so I know that the final project will look good. A problem that may arise here is me not getting to do any of the editing and therefore not improving at editing. This possibility could also lead to problems within the group, with my groupmates getting mad at me for not contributing enough. So, in order to stop this, I will try my best to contribute as much as possible for other parts of the project.

As a group, we struggled to choose a song to do our music video on. Everyone expected Lilly to suggest a Phoebe Bridgers song, because she is her favorite artist, but Samantha shot down that idea before it was suggested because she doesn't want to get tired of one of her songs. Me and Samantha brainstormed having a Radiohead song, most likely Reckoner, because everyone in the group likes Radiohead. However, no one had any idea's for a Radiohead song, so we scrapped that idea. Lilly then suggested we try a Beatles song, which is an idea I liked a lot because I used listen to The Beatles exclusively. I suggested Strawberry Fields Forever, but no one had really heard of that one. Amelie suggested A Day in the Life, but we all agreed that there would be no good place to cut the song, since the video can only be one minute and fifteen seconds. Samantha suggested Because, which is definitely not a song I would have thought of to do a music video on. Still, Samantha was very convincing about it, and there are clear places where we could either cut the song short or start the song at. However, Lilly and Amelie were not convinced, and wanted to do a faster song. Then, Amelie suggested we do something by Weezer, who is not a band I particularly like. She suggested we do Say It Ain't So, which is just about the only Weezer song that I like. Since Amelie seemed to have a real idea of what we should do for the music video, we all decided that, instead of continuing to argue about it, we should just choose one. So, we will be doing our music video on Say It Ain't So by Weezer.
